How to Preserve Milk in Summer

Farm fresh Milk in Summer

With summer right around the corner, keeping milk fresh throughout the day can be a little difficult. I have often noticed that my milk tends to spoil much faster in the heat, especially since I consume farm fresh A2 milk, which has no preservatives or additives. Without proper storage, there is a high chance of it spoiling pretty quickly and I don’t want to waste the rich nutrition and purity.

After facing this issue multiple times, I decided to experiment with different preservation methods to figure out what works best. In this blog, I will share the type of A2 milk I consume and the techniques that I have tried and tested which have helped me keep it fresh for longer, even during peak summer temperatures.

Why does Milk spoil faster in Summer?

Before giving you various solutions on how to preserve milk, it is important to know why milk spoils faster in summer seasons. Milk has natural bacteria in it and that makes it easily perishable.

  • High Temperatures – The high temperatures make the bacteria multiply quickly, making it go sour quicker than usual.
  • Frequent Temperature Changes – Transporting milk from store to home and frequent opening of the refrigerator can lead to fluctuations in milk temperature.
  • Improper Storage – Keeping milk outside for longer periods of time or in a warm refrigerator can reduce its shelf life.

What I did to preserve my A2 milk

I usually consume A2 buffalo milk and the milk that I like the most is Kshetra Farm’s A2 Buffalo milk. Since their milk is fresh from the farm and unadulterated, it is essential to follow the tips to preserve it for longer. The following are a few tips that I followed and I think you should too.

  1. Refrigeration is Key – Remember to always store Kshetra’s farm fresh milk in the coldest part of your refrigerator. I usually put my temperature at 4° C or lower to preserve it for longer. The constant opening and closing of the refrigerator door might also affect the milk so I suggest putting it at the back.
  1. Use an insulated flask – If you are carrying some milk outside to your workplace or somewhere else, I recommend using an insulated flask to maintain its temperature.
  1. Boil only what you need – When consuming farm fresh milk, boil only what you need. The rest should be stored in the fridge immediately.
  1. Avoid reheating frequently – Try to avoid taking the milk out of the fridge frequently and constantly reheating it during the day. Try to avoid the exposure of Kshetra’s A2 milk to the warm weather.
  1. Store it in glass containers – Glass containers retain temperatures better and prevent contamination compared to plastic containers. Glass containers also maintain the purity of Kshetra’s A2 milk.
  1. Check for signs – Even with the best storage practices, always check for smells, curdling, or changes in texture before consuming. Fresh A2 milk should have a clean, pleasant aroma and smooth consistency.
